Foam- The bases are constructed from two types of foam. Closed cell foam and a high compression open cell foam. The closed cell foam is mainly used for its lightweight properties, but an added benefit is that it takes on no or very little water. The open cell foam is your cushioning. We use high compression foam to resist bagging out. The seat is very firm at first and will soften up with use. Customers comment that the seat is firm at first but becomes quite comfortable within a day or two of riding. Cover- Most seats are covered with a polyester fabric but vinyl is also available. The polyester is a lighter material, which is the reason for its popularity. It is also treated with a polyurethane coating to make it water repellant. There are color options available but a deposit is required for all colored seats ordered. Most customers request the seat to be attached to the sled with hook and loop, but snaps are also available. Our most popular seat, the Trailmaker, is designed for the average rider who is looking for a stock appearing seat with lightweight characteristics. The weight on this seat ranges from 5.5 lbs. To 7.5 lbs. With the average weight being 6 lbs. For examples of our seats please see our photo album
Avalanche Shovel Packs I It is widely accepted that while riding the mountainous backcountry, an avalanche shovel and probe should be worn on your person at all times. It is simply not enough to have this equipment on your sled, under the hood for example. In order to be effective during an avalanche situation, the proper equipment must be at your disposal at all times. The combination of fear, stress, and adrenaline can contribute to the possibility of forgetting your lifesaving equipment, such as your shovel and probe, under the hood or in the seat of your sled. The time taken to run back to your sled to retrieve these items could be your buddy’s last breath. Although we here at HMP offer a shovel and probe storage option on our seats, we strongly recommend that you also wear a shovel and probe with you throughout the day. This has led HMP to design a shovel pack that stores your shovel, probe, and a small first aid kit. It is small enough that it doesn’t hinder a rider’s movement or ability to enjoy a day of riding. A large backpack can be worn over the shovel pack to carry in all your regular items such as tools and parts, and dropped off when in the play area. This way you always have your rescue equipment with you. The key features of the shovel pack are its lightness, chest strap, and a two-inch torso strap. It is constructed of a 600-denier polyester fabric that offers excellent strength as well as exceptional water resistance. There are a variety of colors to choose from as well. The HMP shovel pack is also an excellent choice for those day excursions on the ATV or any time you need a small lightweight pack. For examples of our shovel packs please see our photo album
